Anna Savonarola: More About the Artist

So that you can become an integral part of her work and learn more about it. In this section, we present a wider range of her work. The "Articles" on the "Café des Arts" (the Blog) regularly update the current project(s) of this painter and sculptor. These include oil paintings and their traditional preparations, clay sculptures, and plaster models from the "Masks of Venice" series, which are now sought after by collectors in Florence and Paris. This comprehensive overview of her work will give you a greater understanding of the benefits of getting to know the artist Anna Savonarola.

All my canvases are prepared using traditional techniques. Plastering, sanding, once, twice, followed by a first coat of paint, either burnt sienna or blue, depending on the subject at hand. I'm naturally very interested in old oil painting. This also means the "Great Masters of the past." Speaking of which, I'm preparing some little surprises for you in the coming days. I adhere to the "fat over lean" rule (to a certain extent) to avoid any cracking or to ensure my canvas lasts. I work intuitively, not necessarily according to a rigid, man-made system, but rather in the mind of an artist who constantly imagines, shapes, reshapes, and reconstructs.

My plans are to develop my artistic side in a whole series to come. These will include Sicily, abstract art, self-portraits, but also portraits, nudes, a series of Polynesian beach scenes, and landscapes of Venice and Florence. Venetian masks are on the agenda for the coming weeks. I'm preparing my "molding" work, so I'm pleased to offer you several paintings of Venice, as well as a "molding" on each canvas. The "mask" (modeling) will be present on the canvas, along with the current "theme." Several sizes are also planned: 50, 60, or 130 cm... and possibly more.

I've planned a whole series on "flowers," including roses and poppies, but also on woods, forests, and animals. Some canvases are planned for horses (my favorite animal), eagles, parrots, rams, etc. Sculpture in all its forms, on canvas, alone, raw, and/or in paint.

The artist as a concept?

Time and passion are the motto of “Chef d’Oeuvre” (Masterpiece), as this art gallery is first and foremost artisanal, where everything is handmade. The artist—painter, poet, sculptor, and novelist—opens her “door” and reveals her concept, her journey that led her to develop her art gallery. From the very beginnings of her desire to paint, her sketches, her ever-growing hobbies as she explores all art forms. Her love for art will explain why the artist was convinced of this path. From the very beginnings of her desire to sculpt, her modeling, several ongoing themes, the nude series, our universe, the dreamlike journey, Venetian masks, and many others. His themes have evolved, leading him to become the accomplished painter he is today, considered a role model by most of his fans, art enthusiasts, and collectors, and constantly receiving requests to further develop his art with its multiple concepts.

The Beginning of His Love for Art:

For a long time, I had been nurturing the idea of creating my own works and sharing them with the world. First and foremost, it was a true "love" for drawing. I devoured virtually every magazine and artist's resource, making them my own. A self-taught artist at the age of 13, I was already drawing horses at lightning speed! But I am also very comfortable with mountains, trees, and nature. I have been painting since May 1998, when I truly discovered my path. A pivotal period for me, during which I explored all formats and materials. I was amazed to learn that May 1998 marked the 500th anniversary of my ancestor Girolamo Savonarola! A famous preacher, calligrapher, and renowned for his "divination art," he was also a poet and writer. I too have developed my divinatory skills, and since then, I've taken up oil painting, which remains for me the pinnacle of art of all time. It's a true passion. I devoured almost every little book on the subject, from technique to perspective, studying all the tips and tricks. Pastels and oil painting attracted me like a magnet; I studied them thoroughly in all their forms, and I became known for my own style, my originality, and a free and expressive side that took over. I'm also writing a book, a novel in the style of a novel. I invite you to read just a short excerpt, to give you a taste of what's to come… My Novel...

Introducing Masterpieces:

My desire to share my artwork had become a concept, an original idea to develop. I couldn't sit still any longer and I absolutely had to create this art website. I first learned about computers, then I decided to create my first website. I had my own shop, but I was always under the thumb of people to whom I had to answer, take steps, and also make a certain number of sales or proposals. Today, I am my own boss and I take my own steps. I created this website for personal use and I will develop it gradually. I don't want "Ocean of Art" to become a business or sell at any price; no, my idea is first and foremost my passion, but above all, I want to create art.

Guarantee of the quality of the artworks:

This Art Gallery features a considerable selection of oil paintings. The ever-growing stock of paintings is designed to better serve all individuals, from art lovers to collectors. The artist presents her own unique style and has been working in this field for over 20 years. She paints according to the seasons, and her style adapts to everyone's requests. You can be assured of her originality, of her personal creations made in all places, at all times, present and/or in time...

Renewal of Contemporary Art:

The artist regularly re-examines her ideas, her creations, her methods of creation, her approach to abstraction and concreteness, which she constantly develops through the space she perceives, her fantasies, and her images, all born from a boundless imagination. Every day, every moment, innovative ideas are reborn through the artist's uncharted territories...

Creating new works:

Every day is a new day for the artist, who regularly creates new works in painting, sculpture, or writing. I develop my art using various materials: clay, plaster, and sometimes latex. Painting is at the heart of all my creations, especially oil painting, but it can also be acrylic, pastel, or series of drawings initially created directly for catalog pages and then revisited for new or innovative ideas...

The Origin of the Name

The Story of Savonarola: The Artist's Name

Discover the name Savonarola and its origins. The artist, painter, poet, sculptor, and novelist Anna Savonarola. Her ancestor, Girolamo Savonarola, was a preacher of the word of God. He was also a painter, but famous for his divinatory arts, especially predicting the future. He took from the rich to give to the poor, delivered grand sermons at the Vatican, and filled the church so full that there were queues outside the building. Michael Angelo heard his sermons and received acclaim in the Sistine Chapel. He greatly admired Savonarola, who, incidentally, was a close friend of Botticelli. It is because of Savonarola that the great painter Botticelli is said to have burned a large part of his works on the "Bonfire of Vanity." And what a strange coincidence that today I'm reconstructing my "present" summary on February 7, 2022, when the Bonfire of Vanity was lit on February 7, 2015! He became famous in Florence, a calligrapher renowned for his divinatory skills, as well as a poet and writer.

It is with great humility that I decided to create a "product page" dedicated to Girolamo Savonarola, my ancestor. I wanted to pay him a little tribute. I think there are real similarities in his path or destiny. He studied medicine and then, in the arts, he wrote and painted. I have always been interested in medicine (the study of the human body, and I own several collections on the human being in general), which has always fascinated me. But I am also deeply interested in spirituality, personal development, and, of course, art in general. My ancestor practiced divination, and I practice it too. He wrote, and I myself am writing a novel. He painted, and today it's a true passion of mine.

According to his story, Savonarola was initially in obscurity, then he became famous throughout Florence, his beloved hometown. He did so much good above all else, taking from the rich to give to the poor. He had signed agreements between Italy and France, and he planned to negotiate and sign agreements with all of Europe. But faced with the growing influence of Savonarola, the Pope decided to take matters into his own hands and thus had him wrongfully condemned. Today, some say he was a false prophet, while others consider him a saint. No, he wasn't a false prophet; he was first and foremost a man who had dedicated himself to the "word of God," who did much good, and who has been recognized (according to history) as a "good" man, therefore a "saint." Bishops in Italy themselves say, and rightly so, that they are "ashamed" of the Pope who had him tortured, executed, and burned at the stake.

Note: (for those unfamiliar with this subject): Divination is not "evil" when used to "help" and "guide" others. In fact, it is precisely in this "meaning" that it should be used, because otherwise, the "laws of the Cosmic Universe" are clear, as are the Holy Scriptures (by the same token): the consequences will be a hundredfold for those who misuse "the Art," or for some, "the Gift."

How could God himself allow a "man" calling himself a "prophet," who spoke of the "Holy Scriptures," which are "blessed" above all earthly things? And without God himself intervening? It wasn't God, but the Pope of the time, who had Savonarola "assassinated," and for my part, to indulge his whims, his four desires of the moment... to kill in cold blood in the middle of a Vatican stairwell! Or to allow healthy women, as was the custom at the time, to stroll about in the Vatican Church! Yes, but for those who truly know history, I'm not telling them anything new, am I?

PREACHER OF THE WORD OF GOD AND POET

SAVONAROLA COMPOSED IN LATIN AND ITALIAN

1- Poems.

2- A treatise on poetics.

3- A treatise on politics:

Trattato circa il reggimento e governo dello città di Firenze (1498)
4- Texts calling for religious reform such as: Compendio elle rivelazioni (1495) and Dialogo della verità profetica (1497)
5- Sermons such as: Prediche italiane ai Fiorentini (1495)

Sermones Quadragesimales super Archam Noe. Venezia, Pietro de' Nicolini da Sabio per Francesco e Michele Tramezzino, 1536. These sermons had been carefully noted by his listeners and were published by the Tramezzino brothers in Venice, one of their first publishing ventures.

A little history

Girolamo Savonarola, born in Ferrara on September 21 or 24, 1452 [1] and burned at the stake in Florence on May 23, 1498, was an Italian Dominican friar, preacher, and reformer who established and led the theocratic dictatorship of Florence from 1494 to 1498.

Also known as Hieronymus Savonarola or Girolamo Savonarola, he is famous for his religious reforms, his anti-humanist sermons, and his Bonfire of the Vanities, in which many books and works of art were destroyed. He preached vehemently against the moral corruption of the Catholic faith, without, however, challenging dogma.

The third son of a distinguished family established in Ferrera, in Northern Italy, he was raised by his paternal grandfather, Michele (a renowned professor and physician), and also initially pursued a career in medicine. He began his studies at the University of Ferrera, where he earned a degree in Arts. From a young age, he was interested in the Holy Scriptures and immersed himself in the works of Aristotle, Plato, and Saint Thomas Aquinas, among others. His anticlerical leanings and the traits of a reformer were already evident in his early writings. For example, De Ruina Mundi, a poem he wrote at the age of 20, denounces the degradation of society and the rise of lust and impiety. It was also during this period that he chose his spiritual path, and his allegorical poem *De Ruina Ecclesiale* (1475) reveals his contempt for the Roman Curia, which he describes as a "proud and lying whore."

A preacher of the Word of God (as an artist, I dedicated five years to the Holy Scriptures in an attempt to understand them), he sought to establish a political system that was half theocratic and half democratic. He was accused of being a "false prophet," even the "Antichrist." Personally, I saw his story on video (which I own), and what was said about him was only partly true. According to the film about his life, the Pope at the time engaged in "prostitution" within the Vatican itself, where his apartments were located. He had people killed in "cold blood" within the Vatican. He orchestrated a kind of cabal against Savonarola. All those who considered him a friend suddenly became his enemy. They were forced to turn away, willingly and deliberately, from Savonarola's image, or else they too were threatened with expulsion from Florence!
